According to JustWatch, Netflix and Amazon Prime captured a fifth of the market each in Q2 of 2020, while Disney+ Hotstar reached 17 percent. As recently as 2019, Amazon Prime and Netflix captured only 10 and 5 percent of the market, respectively. Despite the recent gains by U.S. companies, the Indian streaming market remains fragmented.

India only recently announced its GDP growth for Q2 and at a 25.2 percent decline, some might wish it never had. The figure, which is slightly different to government numbers due to special OECD record-keeping, was the lowest recorded by the organization in the quarter.
