Hey cam, TL;DR:
AI Evolves ExponentiallyNo surprise there. What IS surprising are the changes each exponential change brings. Honestly, there have only been a couple times in my 20-year tech career where a new advancement truly shook me up and changed my worldview. While the November 2022 ChatGPT made headlines, personally for me, it was kinda meh. It had potential, but clearly it was still at an early stage. But then, in early 2023, this happened: As silly as this was, this picture of Pope Francis in a large white puffer jacket was the beginning of AI imagery being able to trick human eyes. Then, the November 2023 release happened –OpenAI showed GPT-4 Vision, Custom GPTs and Assistants for the first time and that’s what changed me forever To make my point, I need you to look at this picture: AI didn’t create this picture. But AI was used to recognize what was in the picture and here are the results. See The 30-Day Difference In AI Output:In October 2023, it took a lot of coding to get this somewhat weird description: “A person is holding their thumb up, revealing the veins in their wrist and the nail on their finger.” In November 2023, it took just a few seconds and one prompt to get this incredibly accurate answer from GPT-4 Vision: “The image displays two hands forming a heart shape with fingers against a blurred background, symbolizing love, affection, or friendship.” 🤯 Personally, for me, this is hyper relevant because of EveryAlt - one of my AI products. With just this one change, the amount of work needed to get quality output dropped ridiculously (lower cost) and the quality of the output increased exponentially. Now, this is a win for me because I practiced some of the principles I teach all our Innovators, such as how to build your AI idea from the ground up to take advantage of upgrades to AI models that are on the way. I also teach them how to avoid having future updates completely kill your AI idea overnight. If you’ve got an AI idea in your head or already in the works, then knowing this is required to make sure you don’t waste your time. I’ll cover this as part of a free training I’m doing (there’s a link to join at the end of this email). That said, one of the best ways to make sure your idea is good, is to launch it faster. If that sounds ridiculous to you, I get it, because for decades, I believed this... This is a Venn Diagram illustrating the trade-off between three qualities: good, cheap, and fast, with the intersection labeled "impossible." If you’ve been in the world of professional services for any length of time, then even if you don’t recognize the name, you’ve probably seen some Venn Diagrams similar to this. It’s called the “iron triangle of service” and the basic explanation goes like this: Good, fast, cheap — pick two, because you can never have all three. Want it good and cheap? Then it won’t be fast. Want it fast and good? Then it won’t be cheap. Want it fast and cheap? Then it won’t be good. Impossible to have all three…until now. AI has changed this, permanently. Good, fast, and cheap is the new reality. And that new reality means we have to change the way we think about how we build and launch our new ideas. On Tuesday, I’ll be sharing an inside look at this new framework and how it applies to launching your AI product or process to the world. (Preview: Spending a year in “stealth mode” or spending $50k on your minimum viable product is no longer an option.)
