To address the current staffing and salary issues, ACLP conducted a survey and virtual member sessions to hear from those in the child life community. Through active listening and engagement, these sessions and the corresponding survey
provided invaluable insights into the needs, concerns, and wants of those in the child life community.
It was a remarkable experience for ACLP leadership and staff to foster deeper connections and understanding between our organization and the child life community. Overall, participants expressed a positive response and an interest in increased relationship-building opportunities between ACLP and stakeholders in addition to seeking clarity about ACLP’s advocacy efforts and understanding the distinction between ACLP and the Child Life Certification Commission (CLCC).
The following report showcases the data and themes collected from the survey and virtual sessions.

The survey results and session notes have been carefully reviewed and shared with the ACLP board members. The board will prioritize projects or programs addressing our profession’s pressing challenges and delegate the work to the appropriate (or relevant) committees, task forces, or workgroups.
We recognize the gravity of the staffing and salary issues that continue to affect our profession. However, one resource or initiative will not solve these issues, which are deeply rooted and multifaceted, requiring sustained effort and collaboration to address effectively.
The individuals leading these initiatives and developing needed resources are dedicated professionals in the child life community who generously volunteer their time and expertise for the betterment of our field. The role of the ACLP staff is to implement and execute the approved initiatives and resources.
If you share our passion for advancing the child life profession and wish to contribute to these efforts, we encourage you to consider responding to the call for volunteers in April for an ACLP or CLCC committee.
As we navigate these challenging times, extending grace and empathy towards one another fosters a sense of solidarity and understanding, creating a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and respected. Through compassion and patience, we can uplift those around us and strengthen our community bonds amidst adversity.
