Most people check CTR every morning like it means something.

One of our users runs at 0.4%. His ROAS is 4x.

By CTR he's failing.

By money he's winning, and money is the only one that pays him.

That's the trap.

CTR measures whether people are curious, not whether they buy.

A cheap hook can print clicks all day and never convert one of them.

His order is CPA first, ROAS second, RPM third.

CTR doesn't make the list.

Which is fine for your own ads, because you can see your CPA.

Here's the harder problem.

When you're looking at somebody else's ad, working out whether it's worth modeling, you can't see their CPA.

You can't see their ROAS. You get a picture and some copy.

So most people fall back on which one looks best.

That's the same mistake as CTR, just wearing a different hat.

There's a better tell, and it's sitting in public.

Count how many versions of that ad the brand is running.

One version means they're testing.

Forty near-identical versions, slightly different hooks, slightly different first lines, means they already know.

Nobody manufactures forty variations of something that isn't paying.

It's their internal numbers leaking out where you can read them.

So next time you're picking what to model, stop looking for the ad that looks best.

Look for the one the advertiser clearly can't stop making.
