Get ready to kick off a Summer at MCPL like no other! With the theme Read, Score, Roar, readers of all ages will sprint into stories, build reading streaks, and celebrate every reading win along the way. As Kansas City buzzes with international soccer excitement this summer, MCPL is gearing up to turn every book into a goal worth cheering for.

From playful stories and hands-on activities for kids to rewarding challenges for teens and adults, Summer at MCPL is designed to keep minds engaged and curiosity growing all season long. Caregivers can look forward to a program that supports learning outside the classroom, while kids can expect fun surprises, creative activities, and dino-sized adventures.

Summer at MCPL runs June 1–August 24, 2026

Story Center Speaker Series: Michelle Collins Anderson

The Auditorium at Woodneath Library Center

Join The Story Center for a visit from author Michelle Collins Anderson for a discussion of her latest book, The Moonshine Women. The novel follows three sisters who take over their father’s Ozark Mountains moonshine business in an evocative, Prohibition-era story. This event is offered in partnership with Rainy Day Books and will be followed by a book sale and signing. Please note this program will take place in person at the Auditorium at Woodneath Library Center.

American Legion Band of Greater Kansas City in Concert

The Conference Center at Midwest Genealogy Center

Ragtime: Made in Missouri

Multiple Times and Locations

When ragtime music swept America in the early 20th century, Missouri was at the forefront. Join St. Louis duo Cherry & Jerry for an upbeat ragtime performance. We’ll explore the history of some of Missouri’s best composers of ragtime and the early blues as well as the conditions that brought this music to life.

Please note that all MCPL locations will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day.
